2-19 Three Ways of Living
Shorter periods in the desert are quite normal to all Christian lives. By comparing our lives with the Jews journey from Egypt to the Promised land the Bible warns us from stunting our growth in the following way:
Gods goal for our lives remains unchanged. The calling of God to "the body of Christ" here on earth is to collectively demonstrate unselfish good deeds to the rest of humanity according to the lifestyle of the Kingdom of God. ( more about this in the second series)
- Firstly they were slaves in the land of "Egypt" which in the imagery of the Bible represents the enslavement of the World.
- Then Moses led them into freedom, in order for them to conquer their "promised land" through faith in Gods help.
- But instead of this, the first generation chose to live and die in the "desert".
Hurry out of the World, if you are not born again. Then do not stay too long in the desert of individualism. Rather start the conquest of the promised land in co-operation with other Christians who want to live in a functional close community. In that way you will grow both individually and collectively.
